Hey all! :D I hope you all are doing superb! :D
This Super Sunday, I have brought for you guys and girls, the download links with description of some cool media players, 2 which I still use, some which I have stopped using, and some which I have never used. You can say, a certain amalgamation of media players based on the status of me using them! haha! :D
So, I would like to discuss, WinAmp, Media Player Classic, MPlayer, GOMPlayer, VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player, and maybe some others, if I like to. but fist let's talk about these! :D
Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player is one of the most popular media Players for windows, the reason being - it comes with your copy of Windows! LOL! Anything special about this player? Well, till Windows Media Player 7, there used to be a lot, like free codecs and themes. But lately it lost that charm. Although, if we talk about the quality of output it gives, it is just amazing. But the biggest problem lies with the support for file types. Except for the general file types, like the mp3, wmv, wav, wma, and mpg, it does not support much of the file types natively. You need to have codecs for that, if you wish it support. Even avi is not supported, and letting it fetch codecs while you try to play, is a HAVOC! I don't really recommend anybody using Widows Media Player, but I would say, if you download codes then it is certainly a cool Media Player. K-Lite Codec Pack, is one of the most popular, free, and awesome Codec Pack which enhances the playback of almost all your media players, though I would recommend it specially for Windows Media Player. My suggestion is, if you wish to use Windows Media Player only, then do have K-Lite installed on your system. K-Lite even comes with a Media Player, called Media Player Classic, which we would discuss now.Visit here to download Windows Media Player
Media Player Classic
I would call it one of my personal favorites, easy to manage, easy to use, loaded with features and highly awesome! :DIts small size, low memory footprint, and numerous features make this the media player of choice, but you must add the proper codecs to perfect this freeware. Media Player Classic's interface reflects its title--retro, old school, basic. This single player easily replaces the four or five video players installed on most systems. The only caveat is that you must download a complete set of codecs to play your favorite video formats. Media Player Classic also easily loads and plays DVDs. This program also plays most audio formats. Hot keys are easily changed, but some users complain the process to set a key isn't apparent. The help file isn't included, but is easily downloaded. The promised video subtitle search and download function is Media Player Classic's only disappointment. The default subtitle databases are both offline. (By the time you download this player there may be a new database available.) The address is easily changed under Options. It doesn't matter if you're a novice or system administrator. If you watch video or listen to audio, this freeware player is a must-have program, in my opinion.

WinAmp
Winamp is a media player for Windows-based PCs and Android devices, written by Nullsoft, now a subsidiary of AOL. It is proprietary freeware/shareware, multi-format, extensible with plug-ins and skins, and is noted for its graphical sound visualization, playlist, and media library features. Winamp was developed by American programmer Justin Frankel and Russian programmer Dmitry Boldyrev, and its popularity grew quickly, along with the developing trend of MP3 file-sharing.The most amazing feature of WinAmp is that you can make the superb graphics effects, that your WinAmp windows hows, called Visualisation. You don;t know what it is? Oh well! Have you noticed nice dancing lights in your video screen of WinAmp when you run an audio file?! yeah? There you go! That is what is Visualisation. Now what's special about them? These cool Visualisations can be made your Desktop background! yes!! :D :D Click here to know how to do this!
I love this software and it has been my audio player since such a long time. I have used all WinAmp versions since the release of WinAmp 2.79 :D

GOMPlayer
GOM Player (Gretech Online Movie Player) is a 32/64-bit media player for Microsoft Windows, distributed by the Gretech Corporation of South Korea. It is the primary client player for South Korean GOM-TV, and is more popular in South Korea than any other media player. Key strengths inherited from libavcodec include wide ranging ability to play media files, including .flv - without needing to obtain an external codec, and the ability to play some broken media files. Both of those features are present in other projects using libavcodec like VLC and MPlayer, but are absent from some other media software, including Windows Media Player.
The word gom means "bear" in Korean, and as such GOM Player uses a bear's paw as its symbol.
As various media players jockey for position to become your default setting for music and video streams, GOM Media Player's support for a wide range of file formats has helped it stand out as a firm favorite. Supported formats include DAT, MPEG, DivX, XviD, WMV, ASF, AVI, and MOV, as are common codecs like FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, and H263. A pop-out playlist can save and organize your various media files, though the limited sort modes--two--hardly makes it a champ. More impressive are the customizable settings on the control panel. Here you can adjust a video's image brightness, hue, and saturation. There's no preview window, and changes occur as the video runs, so unless you care for a rousing session of trial and error, be sure to tweak the settings after clicking "play." There's also a built-in screen-capture feature that includes zooming and panning, customizable themes, hot keys, and a host of preset and adjustable audio controls. GOM is weakest when you're looking for help documentation and trying to tweak Save settings, but overall it's a very strong player worth at least a supporting role in your video-watching habits, if not the lead.
But I personally don't like this GOMPlayer at all! The reason being my friends' comments. I have personally never used it, but my friends say that it is not good for online streaming as it fetches viruses and spyware. I'm not sure of it, but I didn;t try to use it for this reason only.

MPlayer and SMPlayer
MPlayer is a free and open source media player. The program is available for all major operating systems, including Linux and other Unix-like systems, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Versions for OS/2, Syllable, AmigaOS, MorphOS and AROS Research Operating System are also available. The Windows version works, with some minor problems, also in DOS using HX DOS Extender. A port for DOS using DJGPP is also available. A version for the Wii Homebrew Channel has also emerged. It has also been ported to run on the Amazon Kindle. On the video-player spectrum, SMPlayer is somewhere between the full-bodied Miro and the super-lightweight VLC Player. The freeware player, intended to be a front-end for MPlayer, supports an impressive list of features and options.
The list of supported formats encompasses both major audio and video codecs and does a good job of trying to differentiate itself from the competition. One of the best features is that the player will remember your settings per video, so if you quit the app in the middle of playing, it'll restart it with the exact same settings as before. Subtitles are fully customizable, including color, font, and size, and it can stream in content from the Internet. The app also works on both Windows and Linux, and it's supported in more than 20 languages. There's also a karaoke filter, so you can remove the audio track.

VLC Media Player
VLC media player (also known as VLC) is a highly portable free and open-source media player and streaming media server written by the VideoLAN project. It is a cross-platform media player, with versions for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, MorphOS, BSD, Solaris, iOS, and eComStation.VLC media player supports many audio and video compression methods and file formats, including DVD-video, video CD and streaming protocols. It is able to stream over computer network and to transcode multimedia files.
VLC used to stand for VideoLAN Client, but since VLC is no longer simply a client, that initialism no longer applies.
The default distribution of VLC includes a large number of free decoding and encoding libraries, avoiding the need for finding/calibrating proprietary plugins. Many of VLC's codecs are provided by the libavcodec library from the FFmpeg project, but it uses mainly its own muxer and demuxers and its own protocols. It also gained distinction as the first player to support playback of encrypted DVDs on Linux and Mac OS X by using the libdvdcss DVD decryption library.
And if we go by what VidoeLan has to say, then:
VLC (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MP3, and OGG, as well as for DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It also can be used as a server for unicast or multicast streams in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
Anyways, it is a cool software, I have used it for quite sometime, but I no longer use it. Media Player Classic and WinAmp together are enough to cater to all my media requirements. But I highly recommend this VLC Media Player since it is supercool and has quite a good bunch of features at your disposal! :)
